Word for today: gongoozling
The hobby of watching things happen on canals. Unlike Trainspotting which centers around identifying trains in hopes of seeing them all (similar to birdwatching), gongoozling is a more casual affair, simply watching boats, canals, and locks working. The word is probably from the Lincolnshire dialect fusing Gawn (a boat) and Gooze/Goozle (to stare).
Sounds a bit silly but honestly if the Falkirk Wheel was convenient I might partake in some gongoozling, this thing looks crazy
